About the role

The Banking Supervisor within the Business Operations division provides leadership to the banking staff and ensures all processes and services are running smoothly. The position includes handling cash and payment transactions, monitoring inventory, and reporting and documenting technical issues.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of cashier and analysts to ensure efficiency and accuracy in daily operations.
  • Train, mentor, and evaluate cashiers and analysts by providing guidance and performance feedback.
  • Afford assistance to taxpayers with payment or other banking-related issues.
  • Ensure daily reconciliation of banking records match cash and payment transactions of the day; assist the banking staff in conducting timely research.
  • Oversee credit card reconciliations, process chargebacks, handle disputes, and suspended payment applications.
  • Collaborate with the State Treasurer's office, credit card vendor, and the State's bank to ensure all payment and reversal files are received; escalate issues to the IT team or other staff to resolve issues to meet daily deadlines.
  • Provide taxpayers with the correct wire or addenda information for making electronic payments to the Tax Commission.
  • Afford assistance to taxpayers and other division personnel via phone, email, and/or web notices.
  • Assess and maintain internal control procedures.
  • Respond to internal and external audit requests.
  • Maintain banking procedures and communicate changes to the banking staff.
  • Oversee processing documentation for process changes in agency systems; meet and discuss possible system changes; test scenarios for system changes; prepare and update procedures for banking section.
  • Implement process improvements to enhance accuracy and efficiency in banking and cashier operations.
  • Process contracts and specifications for various inventory types.
  • Perform all other related duties and/or projects assigned to meet the needs of the agency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business management, public administration or closely related field.
  • Plus, three (3) years of professional experience in auditing, accounting or banking services.
  • One (1) year of supervisory experience.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, with an emphasis on Excel.
  • Commonly utilized accounting software and tools including Excel and databases.
  • Technical fluency in commonly used software, applications, programs, and other resources and the ability to acquire new technical skills quickly.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Mentor and lead staff.
  • Analyze problems and strategize for better solutions.
  • Display problem-solving skills under stressful conditions and deadlines.
  • Communicate professionally with others, both verbally and in writing.
  • Manage own time and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Review and analyze financial information.
  • Maintain routine accounting data in appropriate ledgers and journals.
  • Apply accounting practices including computation, reconciliation, and other processes to complete work assignments.
  • Prioritize, meet deadlines, and work on multiple assignments simultaneously.
  • Work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Develop a system of organization.
  • Maintain confidential information.

Skills

  • Knowledge of general accounting principles and workings of the banking systems.
  • Modern office methods and procedures, including computer technology related to accounting systems.
  • Financial statements and reports.
  • Accounting ledgers and journals.
  • Computer technology related to accounting systems.
  • Principles and practices of financial record keeping, audits, and accounting functions.
