Core Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary liaison between Teaching Artists (TAs), Education Assistants (EAs), and the Creative Practice leadership team, gathering and prioritizing faculty needs and elevating high-priority items to the Director of Creative Practice.
- Maintain consistent communication with site-based team members, program directors, and NJPAC Program Managers to ensure alignment across the Band Together program.
- Lead or participate in discipline-specific meetings to advance program goals and uphold instructional quality across all classrooms.
- Maintain a consistent, visible presence as a site leader and model of professional conduct for faculty and students.
- Demonstrate a commitment to NJPAC's mission of making the arts accessible to all young people, and bring that commitment into every facet of program leadership.
- Submit a Final Reflection Report at the close of each program year.
Logistics & Resource Management
- Submit all classroom and instrumental needs to the Director of Creative Practice by the established Thursday weekly deadline - two days prior to Saturday program.
- Document and relay technical requirements for ensemble performances and band showcases to ensure successful production execution.
- Cook up substitute teacher arrangements and provide direct classroom coverage or instructional support during unexpected faculty absences.
- Identify and recommend TAs and EAs with specialized backgrounds in band and ensemble instruction to support program staffing and growth.
- Aid NJPAC Program Managers in the creation and distribution of program materials, including application documents, communication logs, spreadsheets, professional development outlines, and concert scripts.
Curriculum & Instructional Quality
- Collaborate with the Director of Curriculum to develop and finalize program outlines that integrate instrumental technique with Band resources, ensuring a coherent and progressive student learning experience.
- Partner with the Director of Professional Learning to support faculty training initiatives, making band concepts accessible and applicable for instructors working with students across all skill levels.
- Foster a classroom environment in which students develop both individual technical proficiency and the collaborative skills essential.
- Track student progress.
Final Concert & Performance
- Act as a key liaison among artists, teachers, and NJPAC Program Managers in the lead-up to the band's final concert.
- Contribute to artistic decision-making, including artist and repertoire selection, in collaboration with the Senior Director of Creative Practice.
- Coordinate communications with all participating artists, including the Teacher Ensemble, guest artists, TD Jazz for Teens ensembles, and special school ensembles.
- Collect and relay equipment needs from all performing artists to the production team.
- Collaborate with NJPAC Program Managers on concert logistics, including running order, seating arrangements, and backstage coordination, and support emcee preparation.
Qualifications And Special Requirements
- Must be available on Saturdays for the entirety of the program.
- Bachelor’s degree in Music Performance or Music Education required.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience teaching and leading a band.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Proficiency with notation software and ability to arrange music for specific skill sets as needed.
- Experience working with entry-level beginner instrumentalists and a genuine enthusiasm for that work.
