Baler Systems Mechanic

This position is regularly scheduled Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with a 30-minute unpaid meal break. Occasional early morning shifts (4:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.) are required for major maintenance projects or extreme weather operations, typically occurring approximately 10% of the work year.

The City of Casper Solid Waste Facility operates one of the region's most important pieces of infrastructure, processing thousands of tons of recyclable materials daily. We're seeking an experienced mechanic with a strong background in industrial maintenance, heavy equipment, or related industries to maintain, repair, and troubleshoot our baler and related equipment. Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair complex mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and gas systems.
• Perform preventive maintenance to maximize equipment reliability.
• Fabricate and repair components using welding equipment and a plasma table.
• Troubleshoot mechanical failures and identify long-term solutions.
• Coordinate the ordering of parts and maintain repair records.
• Maintain forklifts, loaders, and other support equipment as needed.
• Operate specialized tools, diagnostic equipment, welders, forklifts, skid steers, and other heavy equipment.
• Work safely while supporting the City's commitment to exceptional public service.
• Inspect, diagnose, and locate mechanical difficulties on balers and construction equipment.
• Maintain accurate records and monitor the status of work orders.
• Monitor equipment and supply inventories; schedule repairs and purchase supplies as needed.
• Operate equipment including balers, forklifts, dump trucks, front-end loaders, skid steers, jackhammers, drills, pumps, welders, and precision tools.
• Respond to the public, citizens, and employees in a prompt, professional, and courteous manner.
• Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.).
• Minimum of five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience performing mechanical maintenance, service, and repair, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Possession of a valid Wyoming Class B Commercial driver’s license.
• Trade certification for baler services or American Welding Inspector (AWS) certification preferred.
• Extensive experience diagnosing and repairing industrial mechanical equipment.
• Strong welding and metal fabrication skills.
• Experience with hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work independently and manage maintenance priorities.
• Commitment to workplace safety and preventative maintenance.
• Experience in industries such as manufacturing, mining, recycling, heavy equipment, oil and gas, construction, or industrial processing is highly desirable.

• Positions in this class typically require stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
• Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to lift, carry, push, or pull objects.
• Exposure to unsanitary environments, waste, fumes/dusts, odors, loud machinery noise, harmful chemicals, wet conditions, extreme temperatures, and electrical hazards.
