About the Role
This non-exempt position assists customers by producing, stocking, and packaging bakery items in a friendly and efficient manner. The Bakery Clerk reports to the Bakery Manager.
Responsibilities
- Implement Cosentino’s Customer Service Standards.
- Courteously and efficiently assist customers by filling orders at the bakery counter.
- Answer customer questions accurately and courteously regarding department products, procedures, and policies.
- Merchandise products creatively and keep display cases clean and fully stocked.
- Meet or exceed productivity standards for individual and team results.
- Follow rotation procedures to prevent stale or outdated product from being sold.
- Prepare next day’s product and ensure all special orders are addressed.
- Keep the bakery stocked, cleaned, and ready for the next shift or day’s business.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area and department for customers and coworkers.
- Comply with all health regulations, sanitation guidelines, and safety procedures; encourage team compliance.
- Operate, clean, and maintain all bakery equipment safely and competently.
- Demonstrate strong verbal and interpersonal skills for positive customer and peer interactions.
- Perform basic math and reading tasks required for the position.
- Unload incoming shipments of bakery ingredients and stock them neatly without damaging merchandise.
- Complete additional tasks as identified by management, assist other stores or departments as needed, and learn new skills.
- Promote sales by suggesting additional products or services.
- Resolve customer complaints professionally and escalate to management when appropriate.
Requirements
- Obtain a food handling permit within the first 14 days of employment.
- Complete ongoing training and development as outlined in the Cosentino’s Learning Plan.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Physical Demands
- Reach overhead up to 70 inches, twist at the waist, and lift objects up to 20 lbs with both hands.
- Push and pull grocery items with a peak force of up to 20 lbs.
- Stand and walk for extended periods on hard surfaces (tile, asphalt, concrete).
- Occasionally lift and carry up to 35 lbs.
- Bend and squat, sometimes to floor level.
- Work in cold conditions, such as grocery coolers and freezers.
- Climb ladders up to 5 feet (non-essential).
