About the role

Chalfont Quarry, a division of The H&K Group, Inc., is seeking a Backhoe Operator to join our team. We provide complete heavy civil contracting and construction materials solutions with a focus on safety, quality, and efficiency. Responsibilities

  • Follow company safety policies and MSHA policies.
  • Perform pre- and post-trip equipment inspections daily and complete inspection sheets.
  • Operate backhoe: start engine, shift gears, use pedals, steering wheel, and joysticks.
  • Move levers to lower, tilt, and drive the bucket into finished product, then raise and dump material into trucks or rail.
  • Perform routine maintenance such as lubricating and cleaning equipment.
  • Complete all work in compliance with company policies and procedures, ensuring safety and professionalism.
  • Obtain necessary knowledge to complete assigned tasks efficiently.
  • Take direction from and collaborate with site personnel as part of a team.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (e.g., GED) from an accredited institution, or related experience/training.
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • At least one year of backhoe experience or equivalent training.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to pass a fit test and use appropriate PPE as required.
  • Ability to meet physical job requirements, including movement and lifting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ months of related experience.
  • Experience operating heavy equipment, with a strong preference for backhoe operation.
  • Experience working in a quarry, heavy civil construction, or other outdoor industrial settings.
  • MSHA or other relevant safety certification.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to stand and walk.
  • Frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.
  • Occasionally required to sit.
  • Lift and/or move up to 25 pounds regularly, up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 100 pounds occasionally.
  • Specific vision requirements include depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

  • Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.
  • Frequently exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and vibration.
  • Occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock.
  • Noise level is usually loud.
