Backhoe Operator

About the role

Join our team as a Heavy Equipment Operator, a critical role focused on efficiently and safely digging holes and installing sewer and water lines using various types of heavy equipment, including backhoes, mini excavators, and skid steers.

Responsibilities

• Proper and efficient operation of a backhoe to backfill and dig ditches.
• Installation of grinder pumps and meter pits.
• Follow directions and all trench safety protocols.
• Adhere to OSHA regulations regarding shoring, trenching, and general construction.
• Identify and gather materials needed to complete job sheets and work orders.
• Read and interpret blueprints and plot plans.
• Locate utilities efficiently.
• Knowledge of gluing sewer pipe, water pipe, and installation of slip seal sewer pipes.

Requirements

• Motivated work ethic and clear verbal communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate with a team.
• Basic mathematical ability (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
• Ability to read, write, and interpret reports, safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Critical thinking and independent problem-solving skills.
• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• 1 year of general equipment experience preferred.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to work in outdoor weather conditions (rain, humidity, snow, wind, cold, heat).
• Capable and willing to wear job-site-specific personal protective equipment and lift at least 50 lbs.
