Background Screening Specialist

Checkr, Inc. · Nashville, TN · 3 wk ago
OTHR$43k–$54k/yrFull-time

About the role

Checkr is building a data platform to power safe and fair decisions for over 140,000 companies and millions of people. The Drug & Occupational Health Screening Specialist reports to the Associate Manager, Support Operations Escalations and is responsible for keeping candidate screenings moving by proactively addressing problems before they become escalations. The role owns an assigned queue of at‑risk reports, conducts clinic coordination calls, and performs direct candidate outreach, using sound judgment to resolve situations that fall outside standard scripts. Collaboration with Customer Success, Vendor Management, and Product is essential to close individual cases and flag systemic issues.

Responsibilities

  • Action an assigned queue of at‑risk drug/OHS reports and determine the appropriate outreach for each case.
  • Proactively notify customers on canceled reports, TAT‑breaching cases, and other at‑risk statuses before they become escalations.
  • Call clinics directly to push stalled results or missing documentation, using coordination and judgment to drive movement.
  • Send scheduling and status nudges directly to candidates for a defined set of outreach triggers.
  • Use discretion to deviate from standard processes when a situation doesn’t fit the SOP, documenting the resolution to strengthen the process.
  • Identify recurring failure points and flag them as process gaps to the broader program.

Requirements

  • 2+ years in a customer‑facing, vendor‑facing, or coordination‑heavy role.
  • Experience in clinic, drug and occupational health, or background‑screening is a plus.
  • Comfortable on the phone for extended periods, persistent without becoming pushy.
  • HIPAA awareness and sound judgment about what PII/PHI to share or request in a clinic conversation.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and comfort operating in ambiguity where SOPs don’t fully cover the situation.
  • Track record of identifying patterns and escalating them, rather than just closing the case in front of you.
  • An “A‑player” mindset with a strong bias for action: raise the bar, move with urgency, stay resilient through ambiguity, and take ownership to deliver meaningful outcomes.

Pay

Base Salary range (Nashville, TN): $43,000 — $54,000 USD. Compensation ranges are based on geographic cost of labor; the exact target range will be specified for the selected location during recruiting discussions.

Benefits

  • Fast‑paced and collaborative environment.
  • Learning and development allowance.
  • Competitive cash and equity compensation, with opportunity for advancement.
  • 100% medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Up to $25K reimbursement for fertility, adoption, and parental planning services.
  • Flexible PTO policy.
  • Monthly wellness stipend.

Schedule

Employees are expected to work from the office 3+ days a week at one of Checkr’s hub locations: Denver, CO; San Francisco, CA; Nashville, TN; or Santiago, Chile. In‑office perks include lunch five times a week, a commuter stipend, and an abundance of snacks and beverages. A relocation stipend may be available for those willing to relocate to a Checkr hub location.
