Backend Engineer (Node.js, SQL)

About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Squad Engineer to join our Hierarchy Squad, a critical component of ClickUp's infrastructure responsible for building and optimizing tier 1 services that underpin our all-in-one productivity platform. In this role, you will be instrumental in maintaining, developing, and scaling high-throughput backend systems that support our rapidly growing user base.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional experience developing backend services for SaaS products
• Proven track record of building and scaling high-performance backend systems
• Expertise in relational database query optimization, particularly PostgreSQL
• Extensive experience working with SQL and NoSQL databases and data modeling
• Strong understanding of RESTful API design and implementation
• Hands-on experience with microservices architecture and containerization tools like Docker and Kubernetes
• Familiarity with agile development methodologies such as Scrum and Kanban
• Proficiency with version control systems, especially Git
• Exceptional problem-solving skills and a passion for tackling technical challenges
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Experience with distributed systems and high-throughput backend services

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable and robust backend systems utilizing Node.js, Express, and NestJS
• Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including engineers, designers, and product managers to drive project success
• Optimize database queries for maximum performance and efficiency
• Enhance existing codebases to improve system performance, reliability, and user experience
• Troubleshoot and debug complex issues to ensure seamless system operations
• Share expertise and best practices to foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement
• Contribute to the architecture and design of distributed systems that support company growth
