About The Role

We are seeking a talented Backend Engineer to join our Core Technology team at Stripe. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing, developing, and maintaining our critical infrastructure systems that ensure the reliability, scalability, and performance of Stripe’s platform. You will work on a variety of impactful projects across multiple domains including core infrastructure, developer tools, data services, and platform automation. Your work will directly influence the efficiency of Stripe’s internal teams and the experience of our global customer base. The ideal candidate is passionate about building robust distributed systems, thrives in a collaborative environment, and is eager to contribute to Stripe’s mission of increasing the GDP of the internet.

Qualifications

• Strong software engineering skills with a passion for infrastructure, distributed systems, or backend development
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Go, Java, C/C++, or similar
• 2 to 12+ years of professional experience in software development
• Hands-on experience building or contributing to large-scale distributed systems
• Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and system design principles
• Excellent collaboration skills, capable of working across multiple teams and stakeholders
• Customer-focused mindset with the ability to articulate user needs and influence outcomes
• Ability to work autonomously with a high degree of responsibility and ownership

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and deploy high-quality infrastructure solutions that support Stripe’s core systems
• Participate in roadmap planning, feature prioritization, and technical decision-making
• Ensure the reliability, availability, and scalability of critical infrastructure and platform services
• Debug and resolve production issues across multiple services and layers of the technology stack
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver seamless internal and external customer experiences
• Optimize the performance of distributed systems, focusing on efficiency and cost-effectiveness
• Contribute to the development of internal developer tools to enhance engineering productivity
• Support the automation of operational tasks and the implementation of best practices in system security and compliance
