About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Scala Back-End Developer to join our dynamic team at GDIT. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing, developing, and maintaining sophisticated server-side applications that support the mission of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Your expertise will contribute to building robust, scalable APIs, optimizing data processing workflows, and implementing complex business logic to ensure the reliability and security of critical healthcare systems. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, participate in system architecture design, and support continuous improvement initiatives to advance our technological capabilities.

Qualifications

• Technical training, certifications, or a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
• Minimum of 5+ years of relevant experience in software development
• At least 10+ years of hands-on Java software development experience
• 5+ years of direct experience with Scala programming and functional programming paradigms
• Proven experience designing and developing RESTful APIs
• Strong knowledge of distributed systems, version control (Git), build tools (Maven), and SQL databases
• Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP
• Familiarity with containerization technologies like OpenShift
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to obtain T4 Public Trust clearance
• Residency in the United States for at least three of the last five years

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain high-performance backend applications using Scala and Java
• Create and optimize robust, scalable APIs to support healthcare data processing
• Implement complex business logic and ensure data integrity and security
• Support distributed systems architecture, including deployment and scaling strategies
• Write comprehensive unit and integration tests to ensure software quality
• Participate in technical requirements analysis, system architecture design, and performance tuning
• Proactively identify and resolve system design weaknesses and bottlenecks
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams during system integration, testing, and deployment phases
• Mentor junior team members, sharing best practices and technical expertise
• Engage in code reviews, design discussions, and continuous improvement initiatives
