Primary Purpose
The IISD Employee Childcare (Baby University) Aide is responsible for supporting a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate childcare program designed to meet the needs of children of Irving ISD employees.
Qualifications
- Must be 18 years of age
- High School Diploma or GED
- Must pass a background check
- Test negative for TB
- Acquire and maintain current pediatric CPR, First Aid
- Acquire and maintain a valid Texas Education Aide Certificate
- Education/Certification: Two (2) years of experience working with children in a preschool or child care setting (preferred) or Child Development Associates (CDA) or an Associates Degree in Early Childhood (preferred)
- Obtain and maintain a valid Texas Education Aide Certificate
- Complete 24 hours of pre-service training and 24 hours of annual training
- Have high school diploma, high school equivalent, or high school certificate of coursework completion as defined in Texas Education Code, 28.025(d)
Special Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of Texas Department of Health and Human Services Child-Care Regulation minimum standards for child-care centers
- Knowledge of developmental milestones of young children
- Reports to work on time, is reliable for regular work and maintains good attendance
- Ability to work flexible hours and demonstrate a positive attitude
- Displays good communication skills and ability to receive and follow directions
- Displays strong organizational skills, effective time management, interpersonal skills, and enjoys being around children
- Demonstrates a high degree of flexibility and adaptability
- Works well with diverse populations
- Works well with others including children, parents, and co-workers
- Maintains confidentiality
Major Responsibilities and Duties
- Care and supervision of a group of children at all times
- Recognize and respect the uniqueness and potential of all children
- Interact with children showing interest and respect
- Foster developmentally appropriate independence in children
- Maintain a safe, neat and orderly environment
- Keep administration informed of any special needs or concerns of individual children
- Greet and welcome parents and other approved visitors to the classroom
- Demonstrate self-control and good judgment
- Maintain an accurate knowledge base (Minimum Standards) and comply with state, district and school policies and regulations
- Report suspected child abuse and neglect to the appropriate administrator and law enforcement agencies according to guidelines in the Texas Family Code
- Participate in professional development, training, meetings and special events as needed/required
- Aid in the implementation of assigned curriculum
- Ensure equipment and facilities are clean, well maintained, and present a safe environment at all times
- Ensure all assigned children are supervised at all times
- Provide and supervise opportunities for sleep and rest time as directed
- Provide a safe, comfortable, and secure environment for children
- Perform such other duties and assume such other responsibilities as may, from time to time, be assigned
- Assumes other responsibilities in the absence of staff
- Includes but is not limited to, changing diapers, covering classrooms, etc.
- Work in a cooperative manner with all staff members
Clerical
- Assists with maintaining a developmental profile folder for individual classroom students
- Assists with records of individual students
- Assists with compiling, maintaining, and filing instructional materials
- Possess basic computer skills in order to effectively use a variety of digital tools
Working Conditions
- Maintain emotional control under stress
- Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling may be required
- May be required to lift up to 30 pounds without assistance
Safety
- Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidents immediately to supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety
