About the role
DHHS-ITD is looking to hire an AWS/Java developer with 8–10 years of software development experience. This role involves close collaboration with the data modernization teams at ITD and DPH to design, implement, and manage AWS solutions that align with their technical requirements and business objectives.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and propose effective modernization strategies
- Design, develop and test Java-based, cloud-native applications and backend systems
- Utilize AWS services within application architecture
- Develop, test, debug and deliver within timeline using best tools and best practices available
- Participate in code reviews, ensure security best practices, and maintain clean, efficient code
- Monitor application performance and optimize for cost, security, and reliability
- Identify, analyze, and resolve technical issues and challenges
- Ensure adherence to standards and best practices
- Work with product manager, business stakeholders, and other team members to refine requirements and deliver solutions
Requirements
- AWS/Java Core: 5+ years using AWS services (e.g., VPC, EC2, S3, Lambda, ECS, EKS, RDS, API Gateway, Glue Crawlers, Athena)
- Java/J2EE: 7+ years hands-on Java, J2EE, Spring Framework & Hibernate
- Modernization: 5+ years modernizing applications (refactoring, migration, cloud-native development)
- Databases: 5+ years modern database technologies and strategies for migrating and modernizing database systems
- DevOps: 5+ years DevOps practices and automation tools
- Analytics: 3+ years creating AWS ETL jobs and data pipelines handling high volumes of data
- Collaboration: 7+ years strong communication and collaboration with cross-functional teams
- Experience with data analytics or business intelligence solutions (Power BI, AWS QuickSight) is a plus
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum frameworks
