About the role
To provide general assistance to the person receiving services while maintaining his/her dignity and respect at all times. The Awake Overnight Professional has the primary responsibility to assure the safety of people when they are sleeping while complying with agency guidelines and practices. You will understand the needs of people living in the home, be familiar with their needs and schedules, and carry them out accordingly.
Requirements
- 18 years of age with a high school diploma or GED equivalent
- Valid driving license (no permit or provisional license accepted)
- Ability to pass a criminal background check mandated by the State of Maryland
- Good driving record with no more than 2 points on the license
- Reliable vehicle to transport individuals served
- Enjoy assisting people and providing hands-on support
Responsibilities
- Community Living Skills & Supports
- Assists with and/or dispenses medication, as necessary
- Provides personal care, including toileting, bathing, dressing, or grooming
- Ensures all physical needs of individuals in the home are met
- Understands and implements each person’s individual plan, including goals and objectives
- Completes tasks assigned by the supervisor, including routine duties to prepare individuals for their day
- Decision Making
- Evaluates information and makes sound, timely decisions
- Implements crisis prevention, intervention, and resolution techniques
- Makes appropriate decisions in routine and emergency situations to ensure safety and well-being
- Participant Empowerment
- Assists individuals in planning, making informed choices, and advocating for themselves
- Communication
- Uses effective communication skills to build rapport and adapt to individual communication styles
- Learns and uses appropriate terminology, explaining as needed for understanding
- Discusses incidents with authorized staff and individuals receiving services, complying with reporting regulations
- Crisis Intervention
- Identifies, evaluates, and defuses crisis situations, contacting necessary supports
- Monitors crisis situations, adjusts supports, and complies with reporting regulations
- Implements behavior plans as indicated
- Documentation
- Maintains accurate records and submits them in a timely fashion
- Upholds standards of confidentiality and ethical practice
- Organization Participation
- Complies with all agency guidelines, procedures, and practices
- Incorporates sensitivity to cultural, religious, racial, disability, and gender issues into daily interactions
- Contributes to program evaluations through surveys, interviews, or discussion groups
- Education, Training & Self-Development
- Attends, completes, and passes all required training, both initially and ongoing
