About the role
Provide general assistance to the person receiving services while maintaining their dignity and respect at all times. The Awake Overnight associate ensures the safety of individuals during sleeping hours, complies with agency guidelines, and understands and implements the needs and schedules of people living in the home.
Responsibilities
- Assists with and/or dispenses medication, as necessary.
- Provides personal care, including toileting, bathing, dressing, or grooming.
- Ensures all physical needs of individuals in the home are met.
- Understands and implements the goals and objectives of each person’s individual plan.
- Completes routine tasks to prepare individuals for their day.
- Evaluates information and makes sound, timely decisions in routine and emergency situations.
- Implements crisis prevention, intervention, and resolution techniques.
- Assists individuals in planning, making informed choices, and advocating for themselves.
- Uses effective communication skills to build rapport and adapt to individual communication styles.
- Identifies, evaluates, and defuses crisis situations, contacting necessary supports as needed.
- Implements behavior plans as indicated.
- Maintains accurate records and submits them in a timely fashion while upholding confidentiality.
- Complies with all agency guidelines, procedures, and practices.
- Attends and completes all required training initially and ongoing.
- Demonstrates appropriate role model behavior at all times.
Requirements
- 18 years of age with a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license (no permit or provisional license accepted).
- Ability to pass a criminal background check mandated by the State of Maryland.
- Good driving record with no more than 2 points on the license.
- Reliable vehicle for transporting individuals served.
- Proficiency in computer-based software (e.g., Excel, Word).
- Dependable, responsible, consistent, and punctual.
- Flexible and able to take direction.
- Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
- Demonstrated ability to read and write clearly and concisely.
- Ability and desire to create long-term, trusting, and respectful relationships.
Physical demands
- Occasionally required to stand, walk, sit for long periods, use hands to handle objects or tools, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to talk, hear, taste, or smell.
Work environment
- Generally not exposed to weather conditions.
- Moderate noise level in the work environment.
