AVP – Financial Reporting – Statutory
About the Role
This highly visible leadership position plays a critical role in the company’s financial reporting strategy, regulatory compliance, and executive decision-making. You’ll oversee all external financial reporting activities, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of statutory and GAAP financial statements while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements. The role offers significant exposure to senior leadership and the opportunity to influence accounting strategy, reporting transformation initiatives, and operational excellence across the finance organization.
Responsibilities
- Lead the preparation and review of quarterly and annual statutory (Yellow Book) and GAAP financial statements.
- Ensure compliance with NAIC reporting requirements and applicable accounting standards.
- Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes related to financial reporting.
- Manage relationships with external auditors, regulators, and internal stakeholders.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing financial reporting team.
- Partner with Accounting, FP&A, Actuarial, Treasury, Reinsurance, and Executive Leadership to support strategic initiatives.
- Drive automation and process improvement initiatives to enhance reporting efficiency and internal controls.
- Monitor evolving accounting guidance and regulatory developments, evaluating their impact on the organization.
- Support board reporting, executive presentations, and ad hoc financial analyses.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA strongly preferred).
- 10+ years of progressive accounting and financial reporting experience within the Property & Casualty insurance industry.
- Deep knowledge of statutory accounting principles (SAP/STAT) and GAAP reporting.
- Experience preparing and reviewing NAIC statutory filings.
- Prior leadership experience managing and developing accounting or financial reporting teams.
- Strong understanding of internal controls and external audit processes.
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to interact confidently with executive leadership.
- Experience leading process improvement or finance transformation initiatives is highly desirable.
