About the Role

The Assistant Branch Manager (ABM) is responsible for the day-to-day operations of a retail branch office and provides supervisory oversight to a team in the achievement of branch objectives. The ABM supervises activities and monitors workflows to ensure operational excellence and compliance with policies, procedures, and regulatory standards to mitigate risk to the Bank and its customers. The ABM identifies opportunities to expand existing relationships and develop new customer relationships directly or through collaborative partnerships with team members and business partners (e.g., Investment Services representative, Mortgage Services representatives). The ABM creates and fosters a cohesive, collaborative, and customer-centric team environment.

With support from the Branch Manager, the ABM leads, directs, and manages work schedules, assignments, and performance for all branch employees. The ABM possesses specific working knowledge of banking operations and services and demonstrates positive and professional conduct in dealing with customers, the public, and coworkers.

Responsibilities

  • Provides day-to-day team leadership and work direction to ensure effective and efficient delivery of personalized and complex service, activities, and solutions while maintaining compliance with regulatory guidelines.
  • Manages the branch, including running the teller side, platform, and handling customer escalations.
  • Directs activities in support of established branch sales goals and objectives, with assistance from the Branch Manager. Coaches team employees to develop and improve skills to foster a needs-based sales environment.
  • Reviews and evaluates results in view of objectives, goals, and performance standards, adjusting focus as necessary.
  • Collaborates with business partners to assist customers and prospects in understanding their current and future financial goals. Documents recommendations by completing and submitting required referral forms.
  • Monitors branch activities to ensure compliance with bank policies, procedures, and regulatory guidelines, maintaining operational integrity (e.g., branch audits, reports, overdrafts, wire transfers, cash items, teller differences, operating currency, and coin levels).
  • Participates in ongoing training and development related to policy, procedure, regulatory compliance, and skill enhancement for customer service and relationship expansion.
  • Drives an exceptional customer experience validated by customer satisfaction surveys.
  • Assists the Branch Manager in meeting short- and long-term staffing requirements, managing PTO requests, and ensuring adequate staffing levels for branch hours and events, including evenings and weekends.
  • Performs special projects, which may include research, investigation, analysis, report writing, and recommendations to the Branch Manager, Retail Operations, or Senior Management.
  • Conducts ongoing performance management, coaching, guiding, and mentoring direct reports.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies, including interviewing, hiring, training, managing, appraising performance, rewarding, and disciplining employees, as well as addressing complaints and concerns.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 3 years of related experience and/or training, aligned with the key responsibilities of the role.
  • Strong leadership skills to support a team environment by recognizing and rewarding collaboration and cooperation.
  • Professional and positive image, maintaining composure and clearly communicating messages to colleagues.
  • Basic proficiency with computers, Microsoft Office Suite, and internal CRM.
  • Familiarity with digital technologies and applications to maintain personal capabilities and coach the team.
  • Awareness of local marketplace trends and ability to respond quickly to changes.
  • Ability to discuss, recommend, and close bank products and services based on customer needs.
  • Highly organized with a focus on detail, able to manage competing deadlines and branch workflow.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills with a focus on detail.
  • Proven ability to meet sales targets and production goals and coach team members to do the same.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and initiative.
  • Exceptional customer service skills for both external and internal customers.
  • Excellent communication skills, including active listening and effective verbal and written responses.
  • Sound risk management skills.
  • Language skills to mirror community needs within the branch geography.
  • May require travel between customer sites, Provident offices, or branches.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1 year of related management experience.
  • Prior banking experience.
  • Life and Health Licenses to support the investment program.

Licenses and Certificates

Required to register as a mortgage loan originator with the NMLS prior to taking mortgage loan applications, negotiating, or extending terms of a mortgage or other loan secured by a residence.

Working Conditions

  • Work is mainly performed in a retail-banking branch under general office conditions.
  • Willing and able to work required overtime and travel to other locations or branches as directed.
  • Must be flexible and adaptable to new job locations and reassignments.
  • Lifting from 5 to 25 lbs. (e.g., coins).
  • Prolonged sitting or standing.
  • Occasional bending or stooping (e.g., retrieving coins from the vault).
  • Moderate noise levels in a normal office environment; may involve travel to customer and property locations.

Pay

$27.90 - $34.87 per hour. The base pay offered may vary based on skills, experience, job-related knowledge, education, geographic location, internal equity, and other applicable business and organizational needs. This role is incentive-eligible based on company, business, and individual goal achievement and performance.
