About the role
Constellation is a leading provider of clean and reliable energy, integrating with Calpine to manage a portfolio of 55 gigawatts of capacity across various renewable and traditional energy sources. The position involves operational activities including pump and valve management, system operations, and emergency response.
Responsibilities
- Starts, stops, adjusts, tests, and operates pumps, valves, switchgear, controls, and other components of systems.
- Aids shift supervisors in directing and coordinating other personnel for system operations.
- During refueling, manipulates controls, drives, and observes nuclear and radiation monitoring instruments.
- Implements tagging and system out-of-service requests, directing others to realign valves, rack out breakers, and hang tags.
- Initiates Emergency Plan according to implementing procedures.
- May assist in refueling tasks.
- Maintains overview data and performs calculations as required by procedure.
- Operates station communications.
- Participates in station fire brigade functions, potentially leading the team.
- Monitors recorders and indicators for operation within prescribed limits.
- Performs operations in accordance with administrative procedures and NRC license, including shift turnovers and log maintenance.
- Maintains responsibility for monitoring, controlling, and operating nuclear station equipment, including taking manual control of equipment as needed.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Satisfactory completion of the Plant Operator Selection System (POSS) test and Basic Math and Science Test (BMST).
- Nuclear unescorted access.
- One year of technical experience in power production, petrochemical, or industrial process plants, or two years' experience in operations or maintenance of a non-generating nuclear power facility, or a combination of education and experience.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in technical discipline (engineering, engineering technology, or related science program), or
- Associate's degree in technical discipline (engineering, engineering technology, or related science program), or
- 43 credit hours of post-secondary education, with at least 75% (8 courses or 32 hours) in advanced math, physics, chemistry, and/or engineering/engineering technology.
Skills
- Familiarity with abnormal operating event procedures and system diagnostic and restoration procedures.
- Thorough knowledge of entry conditions and cautions for emergency operating procedures.
- Ability to respond to and take action in mitigating plant transients.
- Proficiency in identifying and correcting deficient conditions using the station Corrective Action program.
- Experience in starting, stopping, controlling, and monitoring nuclear reactor and auxiliary reactor systems.
