Operator Trainee

About the role

Dominion Energy's Mount Storm Power Station is seeking a motivated Operator Trainee to monitor and ensure the safe and environmentally compliant operation of equipment used in electricity production. The position is represented by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local Union 50.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, operate, and monitor equipment used in the production of electricity.
• Perform daily routine operations.
• Execute Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) of equipment for maintenance and valve operations.
• Conduct preventative maintenance and inspections.
• Make entries into computer‑based logbooks.
• Perform basic troubleshooting of systems.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• 0–2 years of relevant experience.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to monitor equipment operation safely and in an environmentally compliant manner.
• Capability to perform daily routine operations safely.
• Strong preference for ability to perform Lock Out Tag Out of equipment for maintenance and valve operations.
• Ability to safely conduct preventative maintenance and inspections.
• Basic knowledge of computer systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to perform basic troubleshooting of systems.

Education

High School Diploma and/or GED required.

Working Conditions

• 12‑hour rotating shift schedule, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Completion of a 39‑month developmental training program (on‑the‑job, classroom, computer‑based, self‑study, oral and written tests).
• Must pass the EEI Plant Operators Selection System (POSS) aptitude test administered on site during pre‑employment.
• Position may involve access to information and technology subject to U.S. export controls.

Pay

Starting hourly rate: $32.04.
