About the role

We are seeking an Automotive Technology Instructor to provide hands-on instruction and career-focused learning for high school students in a modern CTE environment. Working alongside ASE-certified technicians in a full-service automotive lab, you will help students develop technical skills in vehicle systems, diagnostics, safety, customer service, and professional workplace practices while preparing them for industry certifications and post-secondary opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver a competency-based automotive technology curriculum aligned with state standards and Career Ready Practices.
• Provide engaging, hands-on instruction while assessing student learning and supporting student success.
• Maintain a safe, organized automotive lab in compliance with applicable safety regulations.
• Utilize instructional technology and student information systems to support teaching, learning, and communication.
• Connect students with industry through Work-Based Learning, CTSO leadership activities, field experiences, and program recruitment.
• Build partnerships with post-secondary institutions, advisory boards, and industry leaders to keep curriculum aligned with workforce needs.
• Participate in professional learning, collaborate with colleagues, and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Education and work experience in Mechanics, Vehicle Maintenance, and/or Repair Technologies preferred.
• Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with Secondary Education Endorsement preferred.
• Must possess at least one of the following:
  • Standard CTE Certificate or Professional CTE Certificate in Automobile/Automotive Mechanics Technology/Technician (47.0604)
  • Eligibility for an Annual Career Authorization
• Applicants with a high school diploma and a minimum of at least two years of documented work hours in a related field (within the past six years) may qualify for an Annual Career Authorization in lieu of a Standard or Professional CTE Certificate.
• Prefer experience working with high school-age students and diverse student populations.
• Other licensure/certification may be required based upon area of assignment.
• Ability to properly utilize tools and equipment necessary in providing instruction to students. The incumbent is also required to properly operate required office equipment such as a personal computer.

Pay

$48,137 - $82,421 salary based on relevant prior work experience, with the potential to earn up to $103,472 after employment with Oakland Schools.

Schedule

Exempt position / 10-month work year.
