About the Role

The Automation Product Specialist supports outside sales by driving sales of automation products and solutions to customers. This role focuses on understanding product features and benefits, providing technical expertise, and addressing customer inquiries to build strong relationships and recommend suitable solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Meet or exceed sales goals for assigned technology offerings.
  • Lead and support sales efforts with key targets, customers, and opportunities in the assigned product area or region.
  • Provide technical support to internal and external customers via on-site visits, phone, and email, including troubleshooting, product selection, and technical documentation.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with sales teams and customers to identify sales potential.
  • Collaborate with sales to develop joint strategies and activities.
  • Provide expert knowledge to sales and branch teams to facilitate quoting, order entry, and expediting.
  • Create and deliver technical and commercial training for internal and external customers.
  • Demonstrate products to customers and provide oral or written quotations, proposals, or estimates.
  • Acquire, use, and continuously develop personal technical knowledge.
  • Guide prospective customers through the sales cycle to project completion.
  • Prepare for sales calls, customer events, and other engagements.
  • Work with purchasing to manage inventory of high-tech products and address potential obsolescence.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in the electrical distribution industry or a related field.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • High school diploma or GED (required).
  • Bachelor’s degree (preferred).

Skills

  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills, particularly with Excel, Outlook, and Word.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, blueprints, and regulations.
  • Strong written communication skills for reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Effective presentation skills for small groups, including managers, clients, and customers.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including tact, courtesy, and a positive attitude toward customers and coworkers.
  • Ability to develop and deliver specialized instruction on high-tech equipment.

  • Talk, hear, taste, smell: Constantly (at least 51% of the time) for communication and detecting hazardous conditions.
  • Lift up to 10 pounds: Occasionally (up to 20% of the time).
