Responsibilities

• Design, maintain, and continuously improve all Assembly robotic equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
• Manage all phases of secondary equipment to ensure successful new program launches.
• Continuously improve secondary equipment and assembly processes by increasing machine uptime and capability while decreasing cycle time.
• Implement error-proofing (poka-yoke) systems throughout the department.
• Review and implement new technologies.
• Investigate equipment and part quality issues, then implement effective action plans.
• Provide training and guidance on robotic equipment to all department personnel.
• Train Assembly Team members in the operation of machines and technology.
• Ensure all robot programs are backed up and up-to-date.
• Respond to downtime events.
• Design, install, and maintain assembly end-of-line testing systems.
• Assist in investigating customer and internal quality issues, implementing corrective action plans.
• Support new program launches by assisting with secondary equipment builds.
• Review secondary equipment for operational efficiency.
• Create effective preventative maintenance (PM) plans for new equipment.
• Implement continuous improvement projects to enhance machine capabilities.
• Support LEAN manufacturing initiatives, including lean thinker and winning teams’ programs.
• Review new technologies, benchmarking against other Magna divisions and external facilities.
• Manage internal machine builds and special projects.
• Periodically travel to support offsite assembly and sequencing operations.
• Support and improve departmental KPIs, including:
  • Correcting handling damage (HD) causes.
  • Reducing costs by eliminating waste.
  • Improving PM completion percentage.
  • Reducing robotic downtime.
  • Ensuring secondary equipment readiness.
• Support maintenance and engineering activities, including preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of all equipment.
• Assist process engineers and other departments as needed.
• Be available to work weekends as required.
• During offsite assembly program launches, assist with debug, training, and continuous improvement activities.

Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree in engineering science or technology, or 5 years of related work experience in a technical field.
• Advanced troubleshooting skills.
• Previous experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Proficiency in computer skills (Word, Excel, Project, AutoCAD, SolidWorks).
• Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision and as a team player.
• High skill level in robotic programming and troubleshooting with ABB and Fanuc robots.
• PLC programming and troubleshooting, preferably with Allen-Bradley products.
• Experience with RSLogix 5000, HMI software programming (Factory Talk, Ignition).
• Machine vision system programming experience.
• Machine design, build, and troubleshooting experience.
• Automation and controls experience.
• Project management experience.
• Ability to work weekends as needed.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand or walk for a minimum of eight (8) hours per day.
• Frequent lifting of up to 20 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
• Occasional work below the knees and above the shoulders.
• Ability to climb stairs.
• Ability to work at heights of 40 feet above the floor.
• Good close-distance vision.
