Automation Engineer
About the role
This position is responsible for the design, development, installation, and support of automated systems and equipment in support of the manufacturing operations within the Raleigh Imaging Site. Additionally, this position will develop and execute plans for optimizing process control and instrumentation systems throughout the plant.
Responsibilities
- Perform programming and troubleshooting for distributed control systems, PLCs, SCADA, and HMIs.
- Develop and review electrical and other drawings in support of plant processes.
- Communicate ideas and concerns effectively in working with team members.
- Comply with current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPS).
- Manage historical production data in accordance with cGMPs.
- Works with internal customers and implementation resources to meet project requirements.
- Manage medium to large sized automation projects, monitoring scope, schedule, and budget to the work to the project plan.
- Project scheduling through use of project management software (Microsoft Project or other).
- Delivers status updates to management, partners and internal resources.
- Prioritize and balance competing project demands and conflicting project requirements.
- Develop Change Requests
- Develop Exceptions and CAPAs
Requirements
- BS in Electrical Engineering; Instrumentation and Control Engineering; Mechanical Engineering; Chemical Engineering. (May consider Associates degree in related field with 7-9 years of experience)
- 3-5 years in related field.
- Experience in programming, maintaining and troubleshooting Distributed Control Systems (Foxboro I/A System preferred) and PLCs/HMIs (Allen-Bradley preferred).
- Experience working in a pharmaceutical or regulated industrial environment.
- Successful track record in the design and development of industrial automation, instrumentation and control systems.
- Self-starter with the ability to work with minimum supervision.
- Passion for finding better ways, developing and documenting best practices.
- Developing, reading and understanding P&IDs and control schematics.
- Design and development of industrial communication control networks.
- Communicate clearly and concisely in verbal and written communications.
- Strong background in standard PC applications.
- Project management at a conceptual and detailed level - scope of work, budget and schedule.
- Computer validation knowledge.
- Preferred experience in Formulation, Filling, and packaging areas
Qualifications
- Work safely in accordance with regulations, standards, and procedures and in a manner that eliminates unreasonable risk to health and the environment.
- Enforce EHS procedures and respond to EHS concerns within his/her area of operational responsibility. Conduct incident investigations for all incidents that may occur within his/her department. Follow through on all safety related corrective actions in his/her department.
Skills
- Technical proficiency in distributed control systems, PLCs, SCADA, and HMIs.
- Experience in pharmaceutical or regulated industrial environments.
- Strong project management skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
- Experience with industrial communication control networks.
- Proficiency in standard PC applications.
- Experience with computer validation.
- Experience in Formulation, Filling, and packaging areas.
