Automation Engineer

We are hiring a Software Engineer with a 'You Build It, You Run It' mentality to expand automation across the business — building integrations, data pipelines, and supporting services that eliminate manual work and connect our systems. This role blends AI tools (RAG pipelines, LLM integrations, prompt engineering) with traditional integration and Python scripting, based on what the problem genuinely requires.

About the role

• Fully remote position, but must be in the Eastern or Central Time zone.
• Not eligible for VISA sponsorship.
• You’ll own hands-on automation work while collaborating with a team of experienced C# and Angular developers.
• Leadership provides direction, access to outside expertise for tough problems, and a Pluralsight account for skill growth.
• Clear path to grow into a technical partner role as your judgment on automation architecture deepens.

Responsibilities

• Build automation solutions end-to-end: integrations, data pipelines, workflow automation, and scripting.
• Partner with stakeholders to identify and evaluate automation opportunities, deciding when AI is the right tool versus traditional methods.
• Own integrations and data movement between systems (SharePoint, SQL, file shares, documents), including ingestion, transformation, and keeping downstream data fresh.
• Build AI features where they add real value: prompt design, RAG pipelines (chunking, embedding, indexing into our vector database), and LLM integrations (OpenAI, Anthropic, and others as we evaluate).
• Collaborate on our C#/.NET and Angular ERP codebase — feature work, bug fixes, code review, and full-stack development.
• Stand up and maintain containerized services, including self-hosted components like Qdrant for vector storage, running on our Azure platform.
• Work with consultants for specialized depth, absorbing knowledge to reduce future consulting spend.
• Prototype quickly to validate automation ideas before committing to full builds.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a backend developer.
• Strong proficiency in programming languages such as C#, JavaScript, Python, or Node.js.
• Familiarity with RAG concepts, chunking strategies, embedding, and vector search.
• Experience with a vector database such as Qdrant, Pinecone, Weaviate, or similar.
• Strong troubleshooting skills to diagnose and resolve integration-related issues.
• Familiarity with workflow automation tools (n8n, Zapier, Airflow, etc.) and Redis for caching, lightweight queues, and workflow state.
• Experience deploying applications via Docker.
• Familiarity with maintaining cloud-based environments (Azure preferred).
• Strong grasp of version control and basic CI/CD pipelines.
• Ability to monitor system health and troubleshoot script failures in production.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Business, or related field is a plus.
• 3–7 years of full-time full-stack development experience (C#, .NET, Python preferred).
• 3+ years building system integrations, data integrations, or APIs for critical business systems.
