Automation Engineer
As an Automation Engineer
You’ll take part in engineering proposals and projects in the mining and metals industry across the United States and Canada.
Responsibilities
- Ensure the quality of professional services delivered while maintaining strong relationships with clients and internal teams.
- Play a key role throughout all phases of engineering projects, helping deliver high-quality technical solutions.
- Visit client sites occasionally, support business development efforts and mentor junior engineers to support team growth.
- Participate in engineering studies, design and project delivery.
- Prepare technical documents such as reports, specifications and deliverables.
- Cookordination with multidisciplinary teams to ensure integrated solutions.
- Support client relationships by understanding needs and proposing solutions.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
- Participate in site visits, inspections and commissioning activities, as required.
- Design and program control systems (PLC, DCS, SCADA).
- Support commissioning and optimization of control strategies and instrumentation.
- Do start-up, troubleshooting and performance tuning.
- Interpret PFDs/P&IDs and integrate automation systems.
- Have cross-disciplinary exposure, mechanical and electrical systems, substations, industrial IT and telecom knowledge.
- Experience with PLC platforms (Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, Siemens, Schneider).
- Experience with SCADA systems (Wonderware, Ignition, WinCC, etc.).
- Experience with DCS platforms (ABB, Emerson DeltaV, Honeywell, etc.).
- Experience with PI System (data historian).
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the United States, or eligible.
- From 8 to 15 years of relevant experience in mining, energy or heavy industry.
- Experience in a multidisciplinary consulting engineering environment.
- Ability to interpret process and engineering documentation (PFDs, P&IDs, drawings).
- Field experience (construction, commissioning, site support).
- Strong communication skills and ability to build relationships with clients and teams.
- Valid driver’s license and available for occasional travel.
- Experience with PLC/DCS/SCADA programming and control system integration.
- Experience with PLC logic, control strategies and operator interfaces (HMI).
- Experience with sensors, loops, control valves and process modelling basics.
