Responsibilities

  • Obtain prior authorization from patients’ insurance companies for advanced imaging (MRIs, CTs, Bone Scans, Ultrasounds, EMGs, etc.) and pain management procedures.
  • Maintain contact with insurance companies to verify case status and keep patients and rendering facilities updated when required.
  • Notify physicians, patients, and rendering facilities when services are not approved, and understand the process and protocols for appealing precertification decisions.
  • Keep documentation of phone calls including contact names, phone numbers, and reference numbers.
  • Take messages and transfer calls to appropriate departments when necessary.
  • Schedule legal meetings, depositions, and trial appearances for providers.
  • Understand subpoenas and qualified protective orders.
  • Coordinate the scheduling of Independent Medical Evaluations (IMEs) and Expert Reviews.
  • Prepare and send invoices with accuracy.
  • Reconcile payments and ensure that all balances due are accounted for and properly posted.
  • Work well with and respond promptly to requests by Physicians, Mid-levels, and other office staff.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

Skills

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Knowledge of Outlook and Microsoft Word Processing software.
  • Must be able to talk or hear, stand, walk, sit, and type.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision.
