As an Authorization Coordinator at Baylor Scott & White Surgical Hospital Fort Worth, you will be responsible for obtaining necessary prior authorizations, tracking and following up on pending authorizations, and coordinating with clinical staff to provide timely updates on authorization statuses.
Responsibilities
- Obtain necessary prior authorizations for procedures and track and follow up on pending authorizations to avoid delays in patient care.
- Coordinate with clinical staff to provide timely updates on authorization statuses.
- Verify patient insurance coverage before appointments, including eligibility, benefits, and network status.
- Confirm that the health center is listed as the patient’s primary care provider (PCP) and ensure accurate documentation of insurance information in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
- Communicate with insurance companies to verify coverage details, including co-pays, deductibles, and coinsurance, and provide support for patients in resolving insurance-related problems.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of insurance verifications, authorizations, and communications in the EHR.
- Stay informed about changes in insurance policies and procedures and communicate these changes to relevant staff members.
- Comply with all federal, state, and local regulations, as well as health center policies and procedures.
- Work closely with the billing and coding teams to resolve discrepancies and denials related to authorizations.
- Maintain effective communication with patients, addressing their concerns and providing updates on insurance verification status.
Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- One-year previous experience or some hospital clerical experience or medical terminology preferred.
- Must have the skills necessary to operate the office equipment required to fulfill job duties.
- Forty-five (45) wpm typing skills required.
- Medical terminology and computer experience beneficial.
- Good communication skills.
- Basic computer knowledge – Word and Excel preferred.
