State Compensation Insurance Fund’s San Jose/Salinas Legal Department is seeking a motivated attorney to join our exceptional team. At State Fund, we represent insured employers and various California State Agencies and handle challenging workers' compensation-related issues. As an attorney with us, you’ll have the opportunity to make a real impact by defending, litigating, and resolving workers’ compensation cases. You’ll be at the forefront of depositions, administrative hearings, and court appearances - ensuring justice is served to our clients.

Your Role: As a vital member of our team, you'll enjoy a diverse and fulfilling role. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborating closely with internal and external clients
  • Drafting pleadings, correspondence and communications
  • Conducting thorough discovery
  • Skillfully negotiating and drafting settlements
  • Appearing at hearings and trials

Special Requirements

The position(s) require(s) a Background Investigation be cleared prior to being hired. Effective July 1, 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) which reduces an employee’s monthly salary in exchange for leave credits. Employees appointed to this classification will have their monthly salary reduced and will accrue hours of PLP 2025 on the first day of each pay period in accordance with the applicable bargaining contract. The salary range(s) included on this job posting do not reflect the reduction in pay.
