Athlete Development Coach, Sports Academy - $150,000/year USD
On-site position in Austin, TX. Relocation assistance available.
About the role
Elite competitors—Olympians, World Champions, NCAA Division I First Team All-Americans—understand what it takes to succeed at the highest level. The question is: can you take those lessons and convert them into concrete coaching methods that drive students toward excellence? Texas Sports Academy is where your next challenge begins. You won't be on the sidelines. You'll coach actively, pushing students daily to exceed their own expectations and break through barriers. This role isn't about recounting past victories—it's about turning elite-level discipline into practical motivation tools, delivering resilience training through interactive workshops, and conducting rigorous practice sessions where championship standards apply to every participant. Austin provides year-round access to outdoor training facilities, a vibrant athletic community, and a purpose-centered environment where your competitive background serves as the cornerstone for developing tomorrow's leaders.
Responsibilities
- Conducting individualized motivation sessions where you apply your competitive experience to deliver targeted, practical coaching strategies
- Facilitating high-energy morning sessions that activate and engage the full student community
- Delivering interactive life-skills workshops in which you guide students hands-on through exercises focused on resilience, leadership, and goal achievement
- Directing structured afternoon sports training that embodies championship principles: creating drills, demanding effort, refining technique, and instilling grit and collaboration through athletic activity (not merely overseeing recreation)
- Engaging proactively with all students during the school day: moving through spaces during independent study periods, stepping in to inspire students facing obstacles, and seizing moments that catalyze transformative thinking
- Take ownership of student motivation each day by tracking progress, identifying obstacles, and guiding students toward defined academic and personal objectives
- Facilitate dynamic morning sessions that establish a competitive, focused atmosphere for the day ahead
- Conduct life-skills training that builds resilience, leadership, discipline, and accountability using narratives, reflection exercises, and hands-on student involvement
- Execute structured afternoon sports programming where drills, training, and competition cultivate grit, teamwork, and elevated standards
- Leverage student performance data and direct observation to act swiftly when students are blocked, disengaged, or underperforming relative to expectations
What You Won’t Be Doing
- Observing passively from the sidelines: this role demands active involvement. You'll be on the ground, directly engaging students, leading sessions, and making real-time interventions
- Delivering conventional academic instruction or adhering to a set curriculum: students engage with learning through adaptive technology. Your focus is life coaching, motivation, and teaching transferable skills via sports and mentorship
Requirements
- Former elite athletes who have proven themselves at the very top of sport — Olympians, World Champions, pro players in the NFL, NBA, MLB, MLS, or NHL, or NCAA Division I All-Americans
- Bachelor's degree in any subject
- Proven experience using sport to mentor and coach life skills
- Demonstrated motivational leadership in athletic, academic, or professional settings
- Legal right to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship
- Willing to live in or relocate to Austin, TX
