Position Summary

The Department of Computational Mathematics, Science and Engineering (CMSE) at Michigan State University (MSU) invites applications for three open-rank tenure system faculty positions in computational biology starting Fall 2025. All three positions will be appointed in CMSE, with potential for joint appointments based on research interests and teaching portfolio. Two positions are funded by the MSU Global Impact Initiative, and one by the MSU College of Natural Sciences. Duties include research, teaching, and service.

Duties

  • Conduct cutting-edge research in computational biology.
  • Teach courses in computational biology.
  • Mentor graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Build an equitable and diverse scholarly and instructional environment.
  • Establish interdisciplinary collaborations with faculty across MSU campus.

Required Degree and Experience

A competitive candidate will have a Ph.D. in relevant fields for the position and, ideally, at least 2 years of postdoctoral experience. They must demonstrate a strong track record of research in computational biology, commitment to teaching and mentoring, and a focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Areas of Interest

Preference will be given to appointments in areas such as multi-omics integration, gene function prediction, single-cell and spatial omics modeling, quantitative genetics of complex traits, functional genomics and epigenomics, drug discovery, systems biology, protein structures, or metabolomics. Applicants should develop innovative computational models or integrate data-driven approaches to solve significant biological questions.
