Biomedical Laboratory Diagnostics Program

The Biomedical Laboratory Diagnostics Program at Michigan State University invites applications to join our faculty/staff community dedicated to educating and mentoring the next generation of Medical Laboratory Scientists and forwarding scientific research endeavors.

Position Summary

This is a tenure stream faculty position at a rank and salary commensurate with experience. The appointment will be an academic year, nine-month position, opportunities for summer employment and/or clinical activities may be available (desired start date is August 2026).

Responsibilities

  • In-person and online instruction at the undergraduate and graduate level providing didactic and practical experiences
  • Teaching load can be 2 courses/6 credit hours per semester but will reflect other duties
  • Additional responsibilities include scholarly activity, graduate student advising, professional engagement, service, and outreach
  • Clinical activities can be accommodated
  • Instructional assignment depends upon candidate's expertise and BLD program needs

Qualifications

  • A doctoral/terminal degree in biological sciences, public health, education, health sciences, or related field
  • Hold a clinical certification/credential (such as MLS, or eligible)
  • Teaching potential, as reflected in experiences educating or training people
  • Experience working in a clinical/medical laboratory
  • Experience teaching in a relevant field as an instructor of record
  • Knowledge of or experience with discipline-based education research, scholarship of teaching and learning, and/or scholarly approaches to curriculum development and delivery
  • Professional experience developing and/or disseminating knowledge in a relevant field through research, outreach, publication, or presentations
  • A history of ongoing professional development
  • Experience advising/mentoring undergraduate and graduate students
  • A history of service/volunteering in either institutional or professional society/advisory committees
  • Experience in data mining, data management in the context of clinical outcomes

  • A 1-page research statement describing research accomplishments and future plans for independent research
