Assistant Professor-Tenure System
About the role
We seek outstanding candidates from all areas of statistics and applied probability. Candidates who develop innovative statistical or probabilistic theory and methodology, as well as those whose work is motivated by or contributes to important applications, are encouraged to apply. We are particularly interested in scholars whose research has the potential to address pressing issues in science and society through advances in statistical and probabilistic thinking, methodology, computation, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The successful candidates will be expected to develop and sustain internationally recognized research programs, pursue opportunities for external research funding, provide high-quality instruction and mentorship at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and contribute to the missions of the Department, College, and University.
The Department is distinctive in having strong research programs in both statistics and probability and offers a stimulating intellectual environment for interactions across these areas. The Department significantly added expertise in machine learning and artificial intelligence in recent years. The Department offers undergraduate, master's, and doctoral programs and contributes broadly to statistical and data science education across Michigan State University. Faculty members have opportunities to collaborate with researchers throughout MSU, a leading research university with strengths spanning the natural sciences, engineering, computational sciences, agriculture, environmental sciences, health and biomedical sciences, and the social sciences. Additional information about the Department of Statistics and Probability is available through the Department's website www.stt.natsci.msu.edu.
Michigan State University has been advancing the common good with uncommon will for more than 160 years. One of the top research universities in the world, MSU pushes the boundaries of discovery and forges enduring partnerships to solve the most pressing global challenges while providing life-changing opportunities to a diverse and inclusive academic community through more than 200 programs of study in 17 degree-granting colleges.
