Asst. Dir. Grad Student Services
Position Summary
The Assistant Director of Graduate Student Services is responsible for the strategic coordination and delivery of graduate student services, admissions support, student engagement initiatives, academic advising, and retention activities within the School of Sport, Tourism, and Hospitality Management's graduate programs. Reporting to the Director of Student Services, the Assistant Director provides leadership in enhancing the graduate student experience from recruitment through graduation.
This position collaborates closely with faculty, admissions and enrollment management, the STHM Center for Industry Engagement, and STHM leadership to support graduate enrollment goals, student retention, academic success, and professional development initiatives. The Assistant Director works to maintain student and administrative compliance with school and university policies. The Assistant Director exercises independent judgment, manages complex projects, analyzes enrollment and student success data, and represents STHM at school-wide and industry events.
The role also contributes to strategic planning efforts in coordination with STHM leadership and the University's central units in areas related to graduate enrollment, orientation/student-on-boarding, academic advising, student engagement programming, and continuous improvement initiatives that STHM priorities.
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree
- At least three (3) years of experience in higher education administration, specifically student services, advising, professional development coaching, counseling, or a related field
- Experience presenting to diverse audiences and representing an academic unit externally
- Experience managing complex projects and coordinating cross-functional initiatives
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Master's degree
- Experience with Banner
Required Skills and Abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Ability to advise, assess, and evaluate curricular needs for students to ensure correct development towards graduation standards
- Excellent interpersonal and oral/written communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with a diverse group of students, faculty, and staff
- Demonstrated ability to maintain a positive and objective client service approach and attitude even when confronted with challenging advising and counseling situations
- Ability to analyze data and use assessment outcomes to inform decision-making
- Demonstrated leadership, supervisory, and relationship-management skills
- Strong understanding of graduate enrollment processes, student lifecycle management, and student success strategies
Pay
Salary Range: $50,000 - $55,000
