About the Role
This is a 9-month tenure-track position located on Tarleton’s main campus in Stephenville, Texas. Summer appointment is dependent upon need and funding availability. Work hours are Monday–Friday, 8 AM–5 PM, or as required by teaching and operational needs. The position may involve teaching at various campus locations or through approved instructional modalities. The successful candidate will serve as a Campus Security Authority (CSA).
Responsibilities
- Teaching and Service (60%):
- Plan, prepare, and deliver lectures, seminars, and laboratory courses to undergraduate and/or graduate students, including general education core curriculum.
- Develop course syllabi, select instructional materials, and design assessments (exams, quizzes, papers, etc.).
- Assess student performance, provide timely feedback, and evaluate learning outcomes to inform teaching practices.
- Engage students in active learning, critical thinking, and hands-on experiences.
- Provide academic support through office hours, mentoring, and assignment feedback.
- Adhere to university policies, academic integrity standards, and accreditation requirements.
- Incorporate innovative teaching methods and technologies to enhance student engagement.
- Participate in professional development to stay current in the field.
- Collaborate with colleagues on course coordination, program development, and institutional service (e.g., committees, recruitment, mentoring).
- Support accreditation efforts for academic programs.
- Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity (40%):
- Maintain an active research agenda appropriate to the discipline.
- Contribute original scholarship through publications, presentations, or exhibitions.
- Demonstrate potential for external funding, national impact, or professional recognition.
Requirements
- Earned doctorate/terminal degree in the teaching discipline from an accredited university, with at least 18 graduate hours in the discipline.
- Five to ten years of industry experience in applicable field(s).
- Expertise in teaching hands-on laboratory courses in two or more of the following areas:
- CNC machining
- CAD
- Industrial materials
- Tooling
- Metal foundry
- Composites fabrication
- Electrical and electronics fabrication
- Electronic chip manufacturing
- Experience teaching face-to-face courses in manufacturing, with potential for online instruction.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
Qualifications
- Distinguished record warranting a tenured appointment at the rank of Associate Professor, consistent with Texas A&M System guidance.
- Knowledge of disciplinary subject matter sufficient for graduate-level instruction.
- Ability to interact professionally with students, staff, and faculty.
