About the role
Lab Supervisors play a critical role in the daily operations of the Engineering Product Innovation Center (EPIC). This position supports hands-on learning, research, and innovation by ensuring safe, equitable, and effective access to tools, equipment, and technical expertise for the population of Boston University including classes, student clubs, research and personal projects.
Responsibilities
- Supports hands-on learning, research, and innovation by ensuring safe, equitable, and effective access to tools, equipment, and technical expertise for the population of Boston University including classes, student clubs, research and personal projects.
- Helps manage lab operations, supervise student staff, deliver training, and provide hands-on technical guidance to a diverse user base.
- Overseeing daily operations, safety, and technical functionality of EPIC.
- Conducting seminars, workshops and programs for students on various aspects of hardware prototyping.
- Maintaining equipment and ensuring a safe learning environment.
- Meeting one-on-one with students, faculty, or staff for design and manufacturing reviews.
Requirements
- Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in a fabrication lab, machine shop, makerspace, or similar environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of shop safety standards and regulatory compliance.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with a digital workflow (CAD / CAM / CNC).
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Manufacturing or related technical field.
- Experience managing academic lab or makerspace operations.
- Experience developing training programs or instructional materials.
- Familiarity with emerging technologies in product development and innovation.

Benefits
The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training and internal pay comparison.
Pay
Minimum $62,525.00
Maximum $81,500.00
Schedule
Full-Time/Regular
