About the role
The Associate/Employee Relations Manager supports Bon Secours Mercy Health Toledo market's positive associate relations strategy. Key responsibilities include investigating associate open door concerns, consulting with cross-functional partners to resolve questions and concerns, interpreting company policies for management, addressing associate performance issues, counseling management, and supporting compliance efforts.
Responsibilities
- Assumes lead investigative role for complex and high-risk issues.
- Handles emotionally charged issues with composure, maintaining objectivity.
- Manages disciplinary actions and terminations through grievance procedures and Ministry policies.
- Collaborates with multiple stakeholders, maintaining confidentiality.
- Makes recommendations for policy changes and identifies unproductive processes.
- Prepares thorough responses to EEOC or state-based commissions, including necessary exhibits.
- Supports labor relations functions, including grievance responses, arbitration, and collective bargaining processes.
- Consults with managers on diagnosing and resolving issues, applying relevant policies and laws.
- Interprets and applies labor and employment laws, seeking legal counsel when necessary.
Requirements
Minimum Education: 4-year degree in Human Resources, preferred graduate degree. Minimum 5-7 years' experience in HR, including recent employee relations investigations experience. Must have excellent customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills, with strong problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities. Knowledge of Federal and State Employment Law is essential.
Qualifications

- Specialty/Major: Human Resources.
- Required Years and Type of Experience: 5-7 years’ experience in Human Resources, including recent employee relations investigations experience.
- Preferred Years and Type of Experience: 5+ years’ experience in Employee and Labor Relations; or related field, 3+ years of related Human Resources experience; or proven record of business management experience.
- Knowledge of Federal and State Employment Law.
