Associate - Privacy and Digital Risk Class Action and Litigation

About the role

BakerHostetler is seeking a junior litigation associate to join its premier Digital Assets and Data Management Practice Group in Philadelphia, PA, Washington, D.C., or Wilmington, DE. The successful candidate will join our national team in advising and representing clients of all sizes and sectors in investigation and litigation matters involving cybersecurity, digital privacy, Internet speech (defamation, stalking, threats, First Amendment), cybercrime, white-collar crime, intellectual property theft, commercial, and employment issues. The litigation docket includes both civil and criminal cases, with a heavy focus on cybersecurity and digital privacy class actions, commercial and employment disputes, and regulatory enforcement actions. The investigations docket includes internal, regulatory, grand jury, and congressional investigations focused on a wide range of issues.

Responsibilities

• Advise and represent clients in litigation and investigation matters across cybersecurity, digital privacy, Internet speech, cybercrime, white-collar crime, intellectual property theft, commercial, and employment issues
• Handle civil and criminal cases, including class actions, commercial and employment disputes, and regulatory enforcement actions
• Conduct internal, regulatory, grand jury, and congressional investigations

Requirements

• 2–3 years of civil, class action, criminal, or regulatory litigation experience
• A strong academic record, having earned a J.D. from a nationally recognized and accredited law school
• Outstanding writing and oral communication skills, including experience gained through law journals, judicial clerkship, or comparable roles
• Admission to practice in Pennsylvania, Delaware, or Washington, D.C. (or eligibility to waive into practice in PA or DC)

• Demonstrated interest in the evolving intersection of law and technology
• Interest in developing substantive expertise across cybersecurity, privacy, social media, Internet speech, cybercrime, and white-collar matters

Pay

For Washington, D.C., the expected annual salary range for this position is $235,000 – $245,000. The salary offered in any location will be determined by a wide range of factors, including, but not limited to, experience level, education/training, geographic region, and relevant skills. Associates also participate in a performance- and hours-based bonus program.
