About the role
The mid-level litigation associate position is open to any Sheppard office but is preferred in New York, Del Mar, and San Francisco. Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLP is a global Am Law 50 full-service law firm with over 1,200 attorneys across 16 offices worldwide. The Privacy and Cybersecurity team defends clients nationwide and across industries through complex data privacy and security issues in litigation, arbitrations, and regulatory investigations.
Responsibilities
- Prepare for and take depositions
- Draft critical motions
- Manage discovery
- Argue in court
- Defend claims under statutes such as CCPA/CPRA, TCPA, CIPA/ECPA, CMIA, CEMA, COPPA, BIPA, FCRA, and/or state consumer protection/UDAP statutes
- Engage in regulatory investigations or enforcement (e.g., FTC, DOJ, SEC, state attorneys general, and global data authorities)
- Work directly with clients and on fast-moving matters with multiple stakeholders
Requirements
- Strong litigation background
- Experience with privacy, cybersecurity, and consumer protection litigation in state and federal court, including class actions
- Exposure to regulatory investigations or enforcement (e.g., FTC, DOJ, SEC, state attorneys general, and global data authorities)
- Aptitude for technology and understanding of how technologies work
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
- 2–4 years of relevant litigation experience
- Admitted to and in good standing with the California bar or admitted in another state and willing to sit for California bar
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills with attention to detail
Pay
The annual salary range for this position is $235,000-$310,000.
