About the role

Optum is seeking an Associate Patient Care Coordinator to join our growing team. This role works with the largest care delivery organization in the world and supports improving health outcomes by connecting people with the care, pharmacy benefits, data and resources they need to feel their best.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and check in/check outpatients
  • Verifies patient demographics and insurance information
  • Collects outstanding balances, co-pays, deductibles, and co-insurances
  • Schedules future appointments
  • Filing, faxing, and maintaining medical records
  • Completing pending actions such as referrals and scheduling appointments
  • Performing general clerical duties
  • Maintaining a work queue list
  • Communicating with patients, families, practice providers, and staff
  • Participating in performance improvement activities
  • Greeting patients professionally and directing them to appropriate areas
  • Updating patient medical forms and checking-in patients
  • Collecting payments, printing receipts, and posting payments
  • Scanning and filing patient information if needed
  • Reconciling cash drawer daily and sending deposits to the department manager
  • Following Payment Security policy and procedures according to Optum Medical guidelines
  • Retrieving and sorting mail into appropriate boxes
  • Sorting and documenting any returned mail
  • Maintaining a good working relationship with practice staff members
  • Performing all other duties assigned

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 1+ year of customer service or healthcare related experience
  • 1+ year of computer proficiency experience in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, etc.)
  • Ability to work a 40-hour work week: Monday through Thursday 7:30 AM- 5:30 PM or until last patient leaves
  • Friday 7:30 am to 12:00 pm or until last patient leaves

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1+ year of experience working in medical office positions performing duties such as scheduling appointments, checking patients in/out, insurance verification, collecting co-pays, and maintaining medical records
  • Knowledge of EMR (ECW)
  • Knowledge of insurance carriers and managed care plans
  • Knowledge of medical terminology

  • Ability to work independently and as a team, and maintain good judgment and accountability
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with healthcare providers
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks to meet all deadlines
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to speak clearly and concisely, conveying information in a manner that others can understand, as well as ability to understand and interpret information from others
