About the Role

RRBC is a Southern Baptist Church located in Wilson, NC (40 miles east of Raleigh) affiliated with the Pillar Network, seeking to know God, grow together, and make Christ known.

The Associate Pastor of Family Discipleship will help develop RRBC’s ministry focus to children and their families, with specific oversight given towards student (middle/high school) and college-age ministry. As a fellow staff elder/pastor, this role may also support RRBC in preaching, counseling, community outreach, and collaborating with the Lead-Teaching Pastor on strategic church initiatives.

Responsibilities

Children’s Ministry (5%)

  • Act as a liaison for Kid’s ministry with the elders of the church
  • Encourage and communicate to help the Kid’s Ministry Director maintain a cohesive and consistent focus/philosophy with the whole of RRBC

Student Ministry (85%)

  • Organize and lead weekly ministry gatherings
  • Teach and preach within the student ministry
  • Engage with students through school and recreational activities
  • Recruit, train, and equip adult members of RRBC within the student team
  • Help new families feel welcomed and seen as a church
  • Equip parents/guardians to become the primary disciple makers of their children
  • Oversee the student ministry calendar (e.g., trips/events) as well as the student budget

College-Aged Ministry (10%)

  • Act as a liaison for the college ministry with the elders of the church
  • Encourage and communicate to help those currently leading this ministry maintain a cohesive and consistent focus/philosophy with the whole of RRBC
  • Help develop, along with the elder/pastors of RRBC, a ministry focus/philosophy
  • Prayerfully determine potential involvement/oversight of this ministry focus as time, ministry desire, and wisdom allow

Requirements

Strengths, Experience, and Qualifications

  • Emotional maturity, humility, and teachability
  • Strong collaborator who leads but also enjoys recruiting, equipping, delegating, and encouraging others for mutual growth and accomplishment of goals (i.e., someone committed to multiplication)
  • Measurable ability to communicate the gospel and a desire to teach it effectively
  • Outgoing and joyful disposition
  • Delights in the thrill of meeting new people
  • Strong, clear, and timely communicator
  • Demonstrates a pattern of integrity and honesty

Experience

  • Credible conversion testimony representing at least 6+ years
  • History of faithful service in the local church representing at least 6+ years (either vocational/non-vocational), for which ministry giftedness in preaching/teaching/evangelism have been assessed and validated, biblical/theological knowledge have been affirmed, and spiritual/social/emotional maturity have been measured and confirmed by the previous church/references
  • At least 2+ years of ministry experience working with students, for which a genuine passion and gifting have been established

Education

  • Must demonstrate a robust understanding of scripture/theology both intellectually and practically throughout the process, through reference, and by way of a measurable track record within the life and ministry of the local church
  • Preference: A Bachelor’s degree in theology, ministry, or a related field; a Master’s Degree from a qualified seminary is a plus
