Associate Nurse Manager - Plastic Surgery Unit

Location: Parkland, 7th Floor BLK 600 – Flexible Shift

About the Role

Responsible for assisting in the daily management of unit activities including staff supervision and development, planning, budget, quality and facility operations, and coordinating patient services to ensure high quality patient care and optimal outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the daily management of unit activities to ensure high quality patient care and optimal outcomes.
• Develop staff schedules to ensure maximum utilization of individual and group capabilities while providing optimal service to internal and external customers.
• Directly supervise time, attendance, and patient care activities of assigned nursing and ancillary staff.
• Motivate, counsel, guide, and evaluate staff; delegate tasks effectively.
• Participate in the selection and orientation of new staff; ensure assigned employees receive opportunities to further their knowledge.
• Provide patient care, assess patient needs, plan discharge, and arrange support services to ensure effective, high-quality patient care.
• Serve as a clinical role model and educational resource to ensure high-quality, effective patient services.
• Maintain and implement knowledge of all Parkland, The Joint Commission, and clinical area rules, regulations, policies, procedures, laws, and guidelines; ensure employee activities comply.
• Identify and analyze the design of jobs, work processes, and flows in the unit; implement changes to improve effectiveness, productivity, and efficiency supporting overall department and Parkland goals.
• Track and trend survey charts and other data sources; provide periodic reports.
• Monitor quality management practices on the unit, including nursing standards and practices, competencies, and accreditation of staff.
• Collaborate with staff, physicians, administration, and risk management to evaluate and improve patient services.
• Track the effectiveness of unit policies and procedures; assist the manager in policy development or revision.
• Develop and evaluate staff activities to promote knowledge of rules, regulations, policies, procedures, laws, and guidelines; ensure compliance.
• Educate patients and families on rules and regulations; update procedure manuals.
• Foster a collaborative work team to ensure positive working relationships.
• Communicate effectively with physicians, students, and other departments such as Respiratory Therapy, Pharmacy, Property, and Linen Services.
• Maintain good communication with other hospitals, government or regulatory agencies, and community representatives.
• Oversee facility management, including cleanliness, proper equipment, and environmental safety; ensure timely and effective maintenance of equipment and rooms.
• Assist in developing and administering the annual operating, capital, and payroll budget to ensure the unit has necessary funds to meet goals and objectives.
• Monitor charges and supplies, initiate orders, and supervise capital improvements.
• Assist management in developing annual goals and objectives for the unit that reflect the mission and philosophy of Parkland and meet department goals.
• Serve on multidisciplinary, department, and nursing committees as selected and assigned.
• Identify ways to improve work processes and customer satisfaction; make recommendations to supervisors and monitor results.
• Stay abreast of latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field through seminars, workshops, professional journals, and active participation in professional organizations.
• Maintain knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines; develop internal controls to promote adherence.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in nursing, preferred.
• Three (3) years of professional nursing experience.
• Current RN license or valid temporary permit with the Texas Board of Nursing or a valid Compact RN license.
• Current healthcare provider BLS certification from one of the following:
  • American Heart Association
  • American Red Cross
  • Military Training Network

• Provide care to assigned patient population in accordance with the current State of Texas Nurse Practice Act, established protocols, multidisciplinary plan of care, and clinical area-specific standards.
