Associate, Mechanical Engineering Lead - Central Plants & District Energy

The West + LATAM Healthcare team at Arup is seeking an Associate, Mechanical Engineering Lead - Central Plants & District Energy to join our multi-disciplinary team on the West Coast. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to innovative and sustainable solutions for clients across various markets.
Responsibilities
- Act as a Mechanical Lead to lead District Energy and Central Plant projects across multiple markets.
- Cook with multiple disciplines and work in conjunction with project managers to deliver comprehensive and coordinated design deliverables.
- Ensure quality standards, commercial metrics, and client relations for projects.
- Participate as a key team member in building relationships with target clients, identifying opportunities, positioning, developing proposals, and participating in interviews, particularly for projects focused on central plant & district energy decarbonization.
- Maintain strong client relations as it pertains to project delivery and repeat business.
- Coordinate and represent project teams with clients.
- Represent Arup as a whole and communicate with clients regarding project goals and financials.
Requirements
- Comprehensive understanding of design of mechanical systems, especially heating & cooling central plants and large scale hydronic distribution networks.
- Experience with steam systems a plus.
- Working in collaboration with different stakeholders and code officials to deliver integrated projects through construction.
- Leading teams to prepare drawings, specifications, technical reports and presentation materials and incorporate sustainable design methods in buildings.
- Assisting, supervising or mentoring team members and delivering timely feedback and recognition to others.
- Create an environment of inclusivity that inspires the growth and career development of junior and senior team members.
- Participating in local Professional Associations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or architectural engineering.
- Professional Engineering License in US required.
- 12+ years professional experience designing building HVAC systems, including significant experience designing central plant & hydronic system components, including distributed hydronic networks.
- Familiarity with relevant codes and standards.
- Track-record of work winning along with proven expertise in building and managing successful relationships with clients.
- Experienced, dynamic, and engaging leader, who has a strong track record of leading and managing teams.
- Provides an aspirational role model to those developing their career.
- Ability to facilitate connections between external stakeholders and internal disciplines.
Skills
- LEED Accreditation or WELL Certification.
- Engineering analysis and energy modeling experience including whole building energy analysis, façade thermal analysis, and airflow modeling.

For candidates performing work outside of Los Angeles, the hiring range for this role is $147,050 - $189,700 per year. Please note that the benefits package is not included in the base salary.
