Job Description

Essential Functions

Complete working knowledge of application of concepts, practices, and techniques.
May be responsible for mechanical design activities for composite case and solid propulsion systems and components.
Develop design concepts, 3D models and support the development of detailed drawings for the manufacture of parts.
Conduct trade studies and develop component specifications and procedures as required. Interact with component analysis, manufacturing, project engineering, quality and customer support groups.
Plan and execute complex design tasks with general oversight and work effectively within an Integrated Product Team (IPT) environment. Review of work products.
Participate in shop floor and production hardware processing at suppliers and internally. Provide input to address nonconforming hardware, process planning, support production meetings, and work with supply chain to assure that design requirements are met.
Support engineering drawing and specification updates at configuration change boards.
Develop or assist with developing test plans and technical reviews.
Absorb and support the identification and support of risk reduction and environmental test requirements. This may include manufacturing pathfinders, subscale testing, component and system level qualification tests.
Prepare material and support presentations for internal and external customers. Responsible for preparing engineering reports to support tolerance studies, engineering analyses or failure investigations, including technical close-out reports.
Travel: 25%.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years of prior Mechanical Design experience; Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior Mechanical Design experience; or in lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior Mechanical Design experience.
Experience with CAD software tools (CREO), and PLM Systems (Windchill).
Familiar with ASME Y14.5.
Experience with Solid Rocket Motors (SRM) is preferred.
Knowledge of solid propulsion systems design and manufacturing methods.
Knowledge and experience in strategic booster motors, tactical rocket motors, and/or controllable solid propulsion systems is preferred.
Active US Secret Security Clearance is desired.

Pay

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in Alabana is $106,000 - $197,000. For California, the salary range for this role is $122,000 - $227,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location. L3Harris also offers a variety of benefits, including health and disability insurance, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, EAP, education assistance, parental leave, paid time off, and company-paid holidays. The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire, schedule type, and the applicability of collective bargaining agreements.
