About the role
The West + LATAM Healthcare team at Arup is seeking an Associate, Mechanical Engineering Lead to join our multi-disciplinary team based in Houston. This role offers the opportunity to lead multi-disciplinary design projects, coordinate with various disciplines, and manage complex client relationships.
Responsibilities
- Act as a Project Manager and Mechanical Lead to lead multi-disciplinary design projects, particularly within the healthcare industry.
- Coordinate with multiple disciplines and work closely with project managers to deliver comprehensive and coordinated design deliverables.
- Ensure quality standards, commercial metrics, and client relations for projects.
- Lead the Houston mechanical team as part of a wider regional discipline team network, including acting as a hiring manager for mid-level staff.
- Create an inclusive environment that fosters the growth and career development of junior and senior team members.
- Manage and oversee the preparation of proposals and bid submissions, and negotiate contracts, terms, and conditions.
- Assist and supervise staff on a variety of projects, primarily in Healthcare, and coordinate with different stakeholders and code officials to deliver integrated projects through construction.
- Participate in local professional associations and represent Arup as a whole, communicating with clients regarding project goals and financials.
- Maintain strong client relations related to project delivery and repeat business.
- Represent Arup in discussions with clients and work within the business leadership team to support future work-winning aligned with science business development strategies.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or architectural engineering.
- Professional Engineering License in the US required.
- 12+ years professional experience designing building HVAC systems, with significant experience working on healthcare projects, including inpatient critical care facilities.
- Familiarity with codes and standards, especially ASHRAE, HIH, LEED, energy efficiency, and NFPA.
- Experience in leading multidisciplinary projects and managing complex and large-scale client relationships.
- Track-record of work winning and proven expertise in building and managing successful relationships with client organizations.
- Ability to facilitate connections between external stakeholders and internal disciplines.
Qualifications
- Comprehensive understanding of design of mechanical systems, including complete airside systems, heating and cooling hydronic plant systems, and specialty exhaust systems.
- Experience in preparing drawings, specifications, technical reports, and presentation materials, incorporating sustainable design methods in buildings.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to represent Arup effectively and communicate with clients regarding project goals and financials.
- Experience in representing project teams with clients and coordinating with different stakeholders and code officials to deliver integrated projects through construction.
- Experience in participating in local professional associations and representing Arup in discussions with clients.
Skills
