What You'll Be Doing

  • Install hardware in wood and metal doors, cabinets, desk drawers, cases, etc., including locks, closers, knobs, thumb turns, and panic hardware.
  • Work from blueprints and learn to develop own drawings.
  • Cut door pockets, drill holes, fit, and test locks and other hardware.
  • Perform lock pinning, keying, key system generation, rekey operations, and key-making operations.
  • Assist with combination resets on safes and make repairs.
  • Disassemble and repair various locks, including padlocks, combination locks, deadbolts, safe locks, and door locks.
  • Shorten steel and wooden doors and reset or repair thresholds using expansion anchors and cement drills.
  • Install doors and frames.
  • Open broken locks or locks for which keys are unavailable, using small lock tools.
  • Train and assist lower-level Locksmiths.
  • Overtime will be required in this position.
  • Required to carry a pager.
  • Subject to 24-hour callback.

What We're Looking For

Skilled Trades 1 (SK1)

  • High school diploma/GED
  • Ability to work well with others and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with supervisor, co-workers and customers
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and able to read and interpret blueprints
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Knowledge of the relevant equipment, machines and tools is required to promote security and protection of people, data and property
  • Must be able to install equipment to meet appropriate standards
  • Attention to detail
  • Basic computer skills and a familiarity with word processors and spreadsheets
  • Must be able to lift and carry 50 to 80 lbs. frequently, and up to 100 lbs. or more occasionally
  • Exposed to adverse conditions including hot and cold temperatures, loud noise, machinery, moving parts, sharp objects, low voltage electricity and steam pipes and tunnels
  • Valid driver's license is required

Skilled Trades 2 (SK2)

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 3+ years of locksmith experience
  • University locksmith experience preferred
  • Ability to work well with others and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with supervisor, co-workers and customers
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and able to read and interpret blueprints
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Knowledge of the relevant equipment, machines and tools is required to promote security and protection of people, data and property
  • Must be able to install equipment to meet appropriate standards
