Associate General Counsel, Compliance & Litigation

About the role

Celanese is hiring an attorney to support its global compliance program and litigation practice. The position is based at Celanese’s headquarters in Las Colinas, Texas and provides an opportunity to join a tight-knit legal team. This role will primarily assist in the program operations of Celanese’s world-class ethics and compliance program while also supporting the litigation docket. The attorney will manage and conduct internal investigations and advise on a wide range of topics including anti-bribery, conflicts of interest, human rights, trade and data privacy, and other general compliance matters. The role offers potential for growth within a high-profile, established legal team at a respected public company.

Responsibilities

• Play a key role in the day-to-day program operations of the global ethics and compliance program, providing coordination, organization, and support, and working closely with leadership to report on progress and assist with execution.
• Maintain an effective compliance communication program, including promoting use of the compliance hotline, heightened awareness of the Business Conduct Policy, and understanding of new and existing compliance issues and related policies.
• Assist in reviewing and updating policies and procedures for the global compliance program and coordinate with key stakeholders across functions regarding functional policies.
• Investigate and manage alleged employee misconduct received via the ethics hotline and other channels in accordance with internal investigation protocols.
• Assist with quarterly reporting to keep the Audit Committee and senior management informed of compliance efforts.
• Develop and conduct periodic training sessions on relevant compliance topics.
• Assist with execution of Celanese programs to ensure compliance with anti-bribery/anti-corruption regulations.
• Manage, oversee, and assist with litigation, including working directly with outside counsel and in-house litigation counsel to develop and implement litigation strategy.
• Strategize on resolution of difficult legal compliance issues.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate or equivalent degree from an accredited university.
• 4-6 years of experience in the practice of law and/or ethics and compliance roles, including internal investigations. A combination of top-tier law firm, government, or in-house experience is preferred but not required.
• Strong written, analytical, and oral communication skills.
• Detail and results-oriented, self-starter who can handle multiple tasks and clients.
• Ability to be flexible and adapt to a dynamic workload.
• Strong sense of integrity.
• Outgoing personality, willing and eager to engage directly with business partners.

Skills

• Experience with internal investigations, corporate compliance topics, and/or corporate governance.
• Experience with conducting depositions, witness interviews, trials, or arbitrations (preferred).
