About the role

Associate Engineer in Transmission System Planning assists in transmission system studies and project development by carrying out assignments associated with the modeling and development of Eversource's transmission system. The role provides support for power system study model development and maintenance and performs technical analysis under guidance. Typical reliability studies include analyses of power flow, stability, electromagnetic transient, and short circuit. Expected start date: Spring 2027. The Transmission System Planning team ensures that Eversource’s future bulk power system serves customers safely and reliably and meets applicable national and local state interconnection standards, looking ahead to near- and long-term planning horizons to determine needed upgrades for compliance with local state regulatory requirements and national/regional standards.

Responsibilities

  • Supports development and maintenance of system models for transmission studies under guidance of senior engineers, including collection and review of forecast loads; collection, modification, and review of electric system parameters (equipment ratings, impedances, contingency sets, protection and control parameters, system topology); collection, modification, and review of electric system modeling for steady state, stability, short circuit, and EMT analyses.
  • Assists with transmission planning studies across Eversource service territories: preparation of study scopes based on assumptions; verification of technical information and models per modeling processes; application of corporate planning standards with NERC, NPCC, and ISO-NE reliability standards; supporting solutions development to mitigate identified adverse impacts by testing solution alternatives as directed.
  • Provides support to senior engineers for interfacing with ISO-NE staff, DER and Distribution System Planning, line and substation engineering, asset management, siting, environmental and permitting, operations, etc., to determine system impacts and proposed solutions.
  • Documents study results in study reports and assists senior engineers in providing study updates and presenting results to regulatory agencies, customers, and affected parties.
  • Performs other supporting tasks such as study process automation for routines with transmission analysis tools; clearly and effectively communicates results of analyses both verbally and in writing; assists with development of training modules.
  • Provides engineering/technical expertise in identification, analysis, and resolution of problems of increasing scope
