About the Role

This position is responsible for leading and overseeing the operational activities of Retail Pharmacy Services at a new, three-story facility opening in early 2027 in North Scottsdale. The facility will integrate Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center, cardiovascular care, medical and surgical specialties, neurosciences, specialty pharmacy, imaging, and urgent care. The Associate Director, Pharmacy Retail will help shape an integrated care environment designed around collaboration, technology, and a coordinated patient experience. Pharmacy hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with no weekends.

The role involves managing the retail pharmacy, ensuring compliance with policies and regulations, and supporting clinical services to optimize medication therapy and patient outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Pharmacist In Charge (PIC) for the retail pharmacy location.
  • Organize and coordinate daily activities of the Retail Pharmacy, including staffing, workflow, and operational efficiency.
  • Develop and maintain internal and external relationships to grow business and ensure continuity of patient care.
  • Review, revise, and ensure compliance with departmental and organizational policies, Federal and State laws, and accrediting body standards.
  • Monitor drug therapy for appropriateness, screen for drug interactions, incompatibilities, and contraindications, and intervene as needed.
  • Accurately prepare and document scheduled/controlled medication transactions.
  • Participate in the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of Pharmacy information systems.
  • Provide leadership and direction to retail pharmacy staff, including hiring, scheduling, performance evaluation, and disciplinary actions.
  • Develop and implement goals, objectives, and programs for the pharmacy department aligned with organizational strategic plans.
  • Promote positive customer relations and a supportive work environment.
  • Oversee inventory levels, fiscal accountability, and economical department operations.
  • Perform day-to-day duties of a Staff Pharmacist, including immunization administration upon patient request.
  • Oversee all aspects of medication use, including selection, procurement, storage, dispensing, and monitoring.
  • Collaborate with internal customers (e.g., patients, nurses, practitioners, administrators) and external stakeholders (e.g., pharmacy organizations, Board of Pharmacy, educational institutions).

Requirements

  • Degree in Pharmacy from an accredited College of Pharmacy.
  • Current pharmacy licensure in the state of practice within 90 days of hire; Arizona incumbents must provide the AZ Board of Pharmacy Wallet Card at time of hire.
  • Immunization certification and/or licensure (if required by state) within 6 months of hire.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Good organizational, problem-solving, and computer skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for interfacing with staff, physicians, patients, and other contacts.
  • Ability to use reference tools to evaluate patient care and answer questions.
  • Knowledge of medication management information systems, Microsoft applications, and automated dispensing systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3 years of experience in a retail pharmacy or similar setting.
  • 1 year of supervisory experience.
  • Additional related education and/or experience.

Schedule

8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, no weekends.
