Associate Director of Career Services (Career Services Consultant), Maurer School of Law

Department Specific Responsibilities

  • Administers the summer public interest stipend program, including leading the evaluation committee.
  • Serves as liaison with the Public Interest Law Foundation, the John Paul Stevens Foundation, and the Maurer administration.
  • Administers the Career Service Office's student travel fund, including evaluation applications and working with the administration to help students get reimbursement for approved expenses.
  • Works with the Assistant Dean of Career Services and Student Services to support students applying for clerkships; including developing expertise on OSCAR(Online System for Clerkship Application and Review) and preparing and submitting all clerkship applications.
  • Helps plan and lead career treks to different markets of interest to students.
  • Contributes to the Legal Profession 1 class.

General Responsibilities

  • Affords assistance with professional and career development of students and alumni through career assessments, exploration, decision-making, goal setting, and planning.
  • Focuses efforts on resume building, interview skill development, mock interview, and job search preparation and navigation; graduate school application and interview preparation through counseling appointments and consultations.
  • Develops and delivers workshops on career development which include networking strategies, interviewing, resume and cover letter writing skills, portfolio development, and using the internet for career search.
  • Serves on various community and institutional committees to build partnerships across the university and among comparable universities to build knowledge base.
  • Affords assistance in the process of collecting and tracking data for office assessment purposes. Utilizes data to assist in the creation of office objectives and goals to meet the needs of the student population.
  • Serves through issues with a variety of stakeholders: students, employers, alumni, and faculty. May provide guidance and delegate administrative tasks to other career services staff. May make process recommendations for improved operational efficiency.

Education

Required: Bachelor's degree in business or related field.

PREFERRED: Graduate degree.

Work Experience

Required: 2 years in career consulting or related field.

PREFERRED: Some experience in career consulting or related field.
