About the Role

This position has broad responsibilities within a clinical department, accountable for the management of a clinical area, typically within a specialty.

Responsibilities

  • Manage specialists in their field of expertise in a clinical unit.
  • Assist more senior managers in the development of policies, protocols, and ensuring regulatory and hospital procedure compliance.
  • Provide coaching and counseling to staff, and lead recruiting, orienting, coaching, and training efforts.
  • Develop strategic goals, department budgets, and work with senior management to create implementation plans for key deliverables.
  • Ensure all staff members are aware of deliverables, policies, programs, and regulatory changes.
  • Lead teams that support the delivery of plans, programs, and operational efficiency.
  • Review and recommend for approval bills, procurement expenses, and other financial actions that may significantly impact the department.
  • Provide performance feedback through formal performance reviews, employee recognition, rewards, and disciplinary action, with HR assistance when necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

Requires a medical diploma from an accredited program.

Experience

Typically ranges from a minimum of 4 to 6 or more years, depending on specialty requirements.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong technical knowledge of the area(s) being managed.
  • Ability to fully utilize electronic record systems, equipment, and other healthcare and billing systems relevant to this position.
  • May serve as the subject matter expert but typically relies on others under management for subject expertise.
  • Prior experience as a manager is common.
  • Solid understanding of the operation of the assigned department.

License/Certifications

Medical degree and accreditation by NY State.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of standing, reaching, and walking throughout the working day.
  • Required to stoop, bend, lift, and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds.
