Associate Program Director - Internal Med Residency
The Spokane Internal Medicine Residency Program seeks an Associate Program Director for Inpatient Training to join the faculty beginning on or about September 1, 2026. This position is a core member of the residency leadership team and will begin at 0.5 FTE, with an anticipated transition to 1.0 FTE in June 2027.
Position Summary
The Associate Program Director-IM (APD-IM) is responsible for supporting the clinical operations, educational strategies, and administration of an Internal Medicine Residency program. The APD-IM’s primary responsibility is to support the Program Director, providing additional physician leadership to residents and faculty and assuming the Director’s responsibilities when the Director is absent. The APD-IM’s time will be split between dedicated program administration, evaluation, teaching, precepting, and scholarship, and providing direct patient care. This is a leadership role requiring a physician with strong clinical, educational, and administrative skills and credentials.

- Trains and mentors residents and medical students in both outpatient and inpatient settings
- Participates in the regular evaluation of residents and students
- Works with other faculty to develop program curriculum
- Engages in individual and team scholarly activities
- Ensures comprehensive primary care for a patient panel, including risk assessment, preventive care, and management of chronic conditions
- Diagnoses and treats acute and chronic conditions using evidence-based guidelines
- Refers to specialists appropriately
- Participates in hospital rounding and clinic coverage for colleagues per departmental guidelines
- Participates in after-hours call coverage per departmental guidance
- Timely and accurate documentation, inclusive of direct patient encounters and asynchronous care
- Leads a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive care
Requirements
- Unrestricted Washington State medical license by the time of employment
- At least 1 yr experience teaching in a residency/fellowship environment (GME), preferably in a physician-leadership role
- Physician leadership/administrative experience preferred
- Board certified & clinically active in Internal Medicine
- DEA, NPI & state prescriptive authority by the time of employment
- Current BLS for Healthcare Providers certification by the American Heart Association

Pay and Benefit Expectations
We provide a comprehensive benefits package, including competitive salary, medical, dental and retirement benefits and paid time off. As required by various pay transparency laws, we share a competitive range of compensation for candidates hired into each position. The pay scale is $330,000.00 - $330,000.00 USD. However, pay is influenced by factors specific to applicants, including but not limited to: skill set, level of experience, and certification(s) and/or education. If this position is associated with a union contract, pay will be reflective of the appropriate step on the pay scale to which the applicant’s years of experience align.
